Sobre Xin
Hello! My name is Xin.I am a native Mandarin Chinese speaker from China, currently living in Lisbon and pursuing a PhD at the University of Lisbon.
I have several years of experience in teaching and tutoring, including Mandarin teaching experience at a Confucius Institute, online Mandarin tutoring, private tutoring in Portugal, and experience working with children. I have taught learners with different backgrounds, including adult beginners, children, and international families whose children had previously lived in China and wanted to maintain their Mandarin after moving abroad.
My teaching style is patient, warm, and flexible. I understand that different learners need different approaches. Some students prefer structured lessons, while younger children often learn better through play, stories, songs, drawing, and natural daily interaction.
For young learners, I focus on creating a comfortable Chinese-speaking environment where they can listen, speak, play, and gradually build confidence. For adult learners, I can adapt lessons to practical communication, pronunciation, vocabulary, conversation practice, and cultural understanding.
I speak a little bit of Portuguese, and can teach in Mandarin and English, and I am happy to adapt the lesson format according to the learner’s age, level, and goals.

I offer Mandarin Chinese lessons for both children and adults, from beginner to intermediate level.
For adult learners, I can help with pronunciation, daily conversation, vocabulary, listening and speaking practice, and a basic understanding of Chinese culture. Lessons can be adapted to your goals, whether you want to learn Mandarin for travel, work, study, cultural interest, or personal development.
For children, I offer both structured Chinese lessons and play-based Mandarin immersion sessions. For younger learners, I can combine language learning with storytelling, drawing, simple games, and daily conversation. The aim is to create a relaxed and natural Chinese-speaking environment where children can become familiar with Mandarin through play.
I also offer Mandarin-speaking childcare support for families who would like their children to maintain or improve their Chinese in an informal and enjoyable way. This is especially suitable for children from international families, children who have previously lived in China, or families who would like their children to stay connected with the Chinese language.
I have previous experience teaching Mandarin in different contexts, including experience at a Confucius Institute, online Mandarin tutoring, private tutoring in Portugal, and working with children from international families. I have also worked with children who had lived in China and whose families wanted them to continue using Chinese after moving abroad.
Lessons can be arranged online or in person in Lisbon. For in-person children’s sessions, a minimum duration may apply.

Online Mandarin Chinese lessons: €25/hour
In-person Mandarin Chinese lessons in Lisbon: €30/hour
Children’s Mandarin immersion play session / Mandarin-speaking childcare support: €20/hour, minimum 2 hours per session
For children’s immersion sessions, the format is informal and play-based. I use Mandarin during storytelling, drawing, songs, games, simple role play, and daily conversation, helping children stay exposed to Chinese in a natural and relaxed environment.
Structured Chinese lessons and Mandarin immersion childcare are different formats. Structured lessons include more focused teaching and preparation, while immersion sessions are designed to support children’s natural exposure to Mandarin through play and interaction.
For in-person sessions, travel costs may apply depending on the location.
