In November 2024, I started learning Portuguese with Raquel.

I didn’t know a single word—not in Portuguese, Spanish, French, or Italian. I was a total beginner.
When I walked down the street, Portuguese sounded like pure noise to me :)

We didn’t study very intensively—just 1.5 hours a week plus homework. At first, progress felt painfully slow, and I sometimes I thought I wasn’t getting anywhere.

Now, nine months later, I suddenly realized that I can hold a simple conversation, understand the meaning of texts on signs or labels.

A few days ago, I attended a parent-teacher meeting and understood what the teacher was saying!!! I was super surprised, proud and excited!

Speaking is still difficult for me, but I finally tasted the language! I felt that moment when I have the choice to communicate in English or Portuguese—I choose Portuguese and try with all my might to stay in the conversation in it.
